New Member with Peafowl Experience

Hi All...I am a new member with a lot of years experience in raising peafowl. I enjoy helping people with questions about peafowl. I have a free range peahen who has just started sitting on a nest with 3 eggs. I live in the country so I am very concerned with predators getting her during the night...That's how I found this site. I know that peahens do NOT like their nest disturbed. So moving her into an enclosed pen is not an option...she will abandon her eggs. Luckily she has her nest about 15 ft from my front door. I have a security camera pointed at her and a motion sensor light. I also have a very good dog who is protective of all my outdoor birds. If the light comes on or I see something I can let him out and he will be on it in seconds flat. That's about all I can do to keep her safe.
I'm glad to be on the site and I hope everyone has good luck with all their birds and hatches this year. Anyone with any peafowl questions I will try to help out with answers. Thank You.

Hello! I am unfortunately in a hurry to get information. We are adopting a peacock fro an acquaintance who has hit a hard time in her life and has to re-home him. We were out of town for several days and I ordered THREE books from Amazon about peafowl care so we could read up on his needs while we were gone. They were ALL garbage- seemed to be AI driven and very general info. I thought maybe I could find better info here!

1) I know they need a large amount of protein in their diet but I can’t find anything that specifies how MUCH food or HOW OFTEN to feed. Can you help?
2) WHAT do they eat from?bowl, tray, food sprinkled on ground? Chicken feeder?
3) Of course he’ll need fresh water but WHAT DO we put the water in? Will he drink from an auto-filling waterer like those for chickens? Or a big bowl?
4) She has a large dog crate we can borrow to transport him. Fortunately it’s only a 10 minute drive back to our house. My husband built a “coop” for him so we can confine him if needed. We have MANY big trees and 4 acres for him to explore and be able to fly up into trees. How long of an adjustment period will he need — should we keep him in the enclosure til he adjusts? Or will it stress him out more if he can’t fly up into the trees?

thank you SOOOOOO much for any advice you can offer !!!
Hello. The original poster hasn't been on for a few weeks but hopefully will reach out to you. Have you made an introductory post?
