Hello. My wife and I are happy to have found this site. My wife decided a couple of months ago to get some chickens. She got the chicks from the local feed store and they are now about 7 weeks old. Thing is, we don't know what kind of chickens they are and the guy at the feed store I called didn't know. Can anyone help ID these chicks?

I think the yellow babies are Buff Orpingtons but have no clue on the brown babies. Any help will be appreciated.

the white stuff around their heads is "fluff" getting ready to be replaces by feathering...I think.. They look like RIR and One pink footed Buff Orpington. Be careful, as they grow, the RIRs will be more agressive, mean, toward the Buff. The Buffs are really sweet natured. I have to take up for mine all the time. If the RIRs weren't such great egg producers, I wouldn't have any at all!

That's odd. My RIR hen that recently passed away was as sweet as pie, she got along great with my buff orpington hen. It was always the BARRED ROCK that was the brute. Guess every group has the aggressor. But Buffs are definitely the less dominate.

Thank you folks. I was kind of leaning toward Rhode Island Reds but don't remember seeing the white around the eyes. It has, however, been well over 40 years since I was back on the farm where we had lots of chickens, Reds included. I guess that white will go away in the next few weeks.
As to the aggressiveness, so far the Buffs are the more aggressive though I suppose that may change as they get older.

Those two look just like every RIR chick I have had. My RIRs have all been really sweet though, not at all bullying towards the others.
