We were given 3 chickens this past Monday. We are still trying to learn what to do. Is it better to leave a feeder in the run full with food or just feed them a certain amount twice a day? Also- they were good layers for the family that gave them to us. We got 1 egg the first day, nothing the 2nd or 3rd day and on the fourth day and yesterday we got there was 1 egg and half of a broken egg. Would this be due to the stress of the move? On the first morning when we let them into the run, we noticed that two of them looked like they had gotten into a fight with each other. There are some feathers missing on their heads. No blood or oozing just missing feathers. How long before the feathers grow back in? Is there something I should look for that could be something other than what I assumed would be re-establishing a pecking order?
Thanks for the help

Moving to new digs is stressful and will slow egg production.
Leave the feeder full during the day, they won't overeat.
Missing feathers may not return till molting season.

! Great to have you aboard! Probably just a pecking order dispute...just monitor. Good luck to you!
