I have been wanting a few chickens for years and finally built a coop ( 8X10) with a large 24 ft by 28 foot wired in pen and a smaller more secure pen on the other side of the coop. I hate to see them run totally loose as I also have a lot of hawks.
I purchased 12 babies this spring and they are right around 16 weeks old now. ( Reds, Barred rocks and Production reds)
One of the barred rocks seems a bit peeked yesterday. Tail down, eyes not wide open and a little lethargic. She does eat and is in good weight. Today she is opening her mouth and shaking her head as though she is trying to get rid of something in her mouth, I went out and bought some Duramycin-10 and just now put it in their drinking water. Is there anythiong else I should be doing. I am new to chickens but have owned and bred exotic birds in the past.

It has been awfully hot here in Florida but the other girls seem to be fine right now.

Welcome to BYC! I'm sorry to hear of your ill chicken. I hope things turn around for her. I'm sure someone will give you some ideas as to what could be wrong with her and how to fix it. Good luck!

I'm sure someone on this site knows. Did you post on the injuries, diseases, and cures thread? More specialized knowledge there. Best of luck!!

Welcome to byc! I am sorry to hear about your sick bird I also recently had a problem in my flock and have been doing a lot of searches on byc. What you describe could be gapeworm possibly..you may want to do a search on gapeworm also post your birds symptoms in the disease illiness forum. Perhaps it could be an impacted crop.
