Hey everyone. New member here in Naperville, IL. I wish I was on here with better news but our small flock was decimated last night by what I suspect was a Raccoon. I need to find replacements quickly for our lone Ameraucana pullet. I don't want to find out that she is lonely (yes that sounds weird) or that she is self mutilating due to being alone. If you can help i would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sorry it's not under better circumstances and that you have suffered a predator attack :hugs It's so hard when this happens and can be devasting and I know just how you feel. I cried for days when I had a fox attack and was totally heart broken.
You might like to drop your state thread for other chicken keepers in your area who could help you with some new flock members. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you
Also there is the buy sell trade section ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/67/buy-sell-trade

Wishing you the very best of luck
, I hope you find the birds you are looking for :frow

Thank you for your kind words. My kids were pretty devastated that their flock was destroyed. I have posted to those forums. Thank you for your help!

I suggest you check out the predator section to find out how to beef up security or your new birds will end up being take-out snacks as well. Naperville has fox, coyote, skunks, as well as raccoons and airborne predators - among them owls that prowl at night. Your survivor is probably not ready for company just now. She may still be shocky from seeing the others slain. This is a major stressor for chickens.

Do you know how the predator gained entry?
