[Isaiahschickens]

My grandson has 1 chicken and 2 roosters. The chicken laid and egg yesterday but she layed it on top of her box rather than inside where her nest is. Is this normal?

Welcome to BYC. In the beginning they are liable to lay anywhere. Try putting golf balls or fake eggs in the nest box. 2 roosters and one hen may become a problem for the hen.

Welcome to BYC! There's more experienced chicken members here who may have more insight than I but I think if this hen is new to laying she might not know to lay in the nest box. Is the nesting area dark enough or is it getting too much light?

As a side note, 1 hen for 2 roosters is not enough. She'll get worn out by the boys. The boys will also end up fighting to be the dominant roo if they haven't already.

! It is completely normal, Chickens just lay where they want to at first. You can place 3 or 4 golf balls where you want her to lay and it will encourage her to lay there. Give her time and she will come around!
