Welcome to BYC!

Here are the places I have ordered from and was pleased:

Mypetchicken.com
Welp.com
Cacklehatchery
Ideal hatchery
Mcmurray Hatchery
Hmm I think that is it...maybe missing another one.

The prices are not too bad on all these websites unless you order a very small amount of chickens and they may charge a lot for that.

Some of the websites have a minimum order of 15 in the spring/summer and 25 in the winter, and others have a min. of 25. Other websites will let you order like 3 chickens but charge a lot in shipping.

I've ordered from Murray McMurray and from Meyer. Pleased with both, but the health and service from Meyer was remarkable. If you order started pullets (4 weeks), you can order less, but taming isn't as easy if you want lap chickens and shipping was quite costly. you can get chicks for a couple dollars each. You pay more for sexed females (pullets) than take your chances chicks (straight run). It's good to know your climate, housing plans and preferences prior to purchase.
Here's a great thread that discusses the various breed characteristics.

Here's a good chart as well.

Once you familiarize yourself here on BYC, You just might find some GREAT breeders close to you. That's always a good option. You can type in your state in the search bar. Good luck with your new flock!

Hope you find the birds you want, your state thread might be the place to ask. You could have breeders close by you that don't advertise like the big online hatcheries.

Good luck, nice to have you here!
