I think we already have our coop. It's a metal garden shed that my wife and kids cleaned out yesterday while I was sleeping. (I work straight midnights). I didn't really want to use a metal structure but I've been learning that they are a viable resource if modified slightly. I'll definitely have to insulate the roof and walls to prevent condensation forming. As well, I'd like to change the doors from sliding to swinging, like barn doors.
As for mixing Silkies and Showgirls with other breeds, I understand Orpingtons are quite docile. What do you think?

I love Orpingtons, I had one once and she was so sweet. I definitely recommend them!
