Hi all,

Just got on the backyard chicken train! We were gifted 2 hens and had to get rid of one that was too noisy, so we ordered 4 day old chicks when PekPek got broody. We stuck them underneath her, and she freaked out and pecked at them initially. But I spent an hour coaxing her, telling her they were her babies and putting my hands in between her and the chicks when she pecked, and she ended up fully adopting them! So now we have 1 adult (PekPek) that I think is a Buff Orpington and 4 chicks - 2 Australorps and 2 Rhode Island Reds. The chicks are now 7 weeks old and as happy as can be. I'm still trying to figure it all out and excited to learn more from this group!

Thanks!

Most broodies that refuse chicks, will keep on harming or killing them once they are alone. Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
