I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and help with my questions.I wanted to let you guys know that our coop is very close to being completed! The main things I have left to build are the nesting boxes, roosts, and of course the run. We did go and pick up 6 Rhode Island Red chicks yesterday. We have them in a big red storage tub that I hung from the coop ceiling, my wife is afraid that a black snake might find it's way into the coop at night.I do have another question, we got a 40lb bag of chick starter and I was wondering if we should be giving them grits (I hope that's what it's called) as well?

If your not feeding them treats like greens etc. then they shouldn't need grit

Some people say yes, personally I don't. They do well digesting chick start on their own and they will consume their own grit once they are put outside. With that said it doesn't hurt to put some out and who knows, it could be beneficial.
