I am a first time chicken owner. My family bought an existing flock of chickens that range from 6 months old to a year and half old. We live in Montana and interested in learning how our girls do during the cold winters here. We got 22 hens and 1 rooster. We have various breeds and don't know what all of them are but we do know we have Rhode Island Reds, Leghorns, Plymouth Rocks, Wyandotte and we think Australorp. We think our Roo is an Easter Egger but not fully sure. We got them the First of October and have been Enjoying the Bounty of eggs they have been giving us. We lost 1 hen during the second week, not sure the cause but was a good learning experience for my 2 daughters 5 and 8. Looking forward to the wealth of information we can learn from this page and others in it.
