Winters has changed a lot since I last was there...as a young girl I had several chickens that I kept in my playhouse in the backyard. I remember catching them grasshoppers. We now have 3 hens that lay 3 eggs a day and are enjoying caring for them...

I would highly recommend the Australorp, they do come from hardy genes and they have one of the best sweet dispositions you could want from a chicken. Her feathers sometimes shine to a green and purple when she's in the sun, she's awesome...
I like chickens for pets as much as I like the eggs.
