Winters is a very nice place. There is a new bridge over Putah creek and the view is awesome from it!
Winters has changed a lot since I last was there...as a young girl I had several chickens that I kept in my playhouse in the backyard. I remember catching them grasshoppers. We now have 3 hens that lay 3 eggs a day and are enjoying caring for them...

My family, grandfather's side is from Ballinger. Were some of the first settlers there before the Civil War.
 
So that is an Astrolore. I might consider getting one for sure. She has good genes and I might be hard pressed to find one as good looking as her.
I would highly recommend the Australorp, they do come from hardy genes and they have one of the best sweet dispositions you could want from a chicken. Her feathers sometimes shine to a green and purple when she's in the sun, she's awesome... IMG_8053.JPG

I like chickens for pets as much as I like the eggs. Disposition is important to me because I have no other animals or pets so they BETTER like me.LOL
