My husband and I are in the process of getting chickens, this is a first for us!
We want to start off with around 4-6 chickens and we are looking at getting Rhode Island Red. We hear they are hearty and very friendly. Our 4 year old granddaughter will be helping to take care of them with us and she’s very excited.
My aunt raises chickens she told me about this website, said it was very helpful
We have 4 acres of land lots of it is wooded, but we have around 2 of them clear.
We are avid dog people, we have three rescue pups! Love them dearly.
I work from home so I am able to spend lots of time with my pups and soon to be chickens.
We also have lots of deer in our area, we put out deer corn (another job of my granddaughters - she lives right across the street) daily to feed and watch them.

We love nature and the outdoors very much.

Hello Nicole, pleased to meet you. Rhode Island Reds are very docile and Hearty. They can be slightly aggressive to other birds. although not brutal. Mine tend to be the alpha in the flock.
Anyway.. I am pleased that you decided to join backyard chickens. There are lots of wonderful members here to share their insights and to help you in your time of need. I / we are looking forward to hearing your stories and Adventures & perhaps seeing some of your photos of your wonderful flock once you begin.
Again, welcome to Backyard chickens!:frow
