Hi,
My name is Jennifer and I am new at raising chickens. I live in an Tampa FL.
I'm actually trying to saved the baby chicks from being eaten at night. After the hurricane the chicken were abandoned, so I decided to take care of them. I have no idea which chickens I have or how to take care of them,bu b I am trying to do my best. My biggest problem is getting them all in the Coop and that they get along. 3 hens have baby chicks and they tend to fight each other alot. Any advise?

How large is your coop that these birds are reciding in? I've found with most breeds of birds that momma & chicks don't do well in the general population. I have had some Silkies that would raise their young together, but that isn't the norm in most cases. Do you have access to a few small metal dog cages? I have used these before for momma & babies. Or is your coop large enough that you can temporarily divide into 3 seperate areas for momma's & chicks? If you are having trouble getting the birds to go back in the coop at night it sounds like they have not figured out where home is. It is recommend for new birds to be shut into their new coop for 2 weeks if at all possible. This allows them establish where home is. I see that others have welcomed you & have provided you with some links that are very helpful. Best of luck with all your momma's & babies.
We are glad you joined our flock!
