(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Found out about Backyard Chickens on the internet, excellent source of information for so many smart chicken people!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Our other hobbies are quading the dirt roads in our area, fishing all the local lakes as well as the coast which is an hour from us, collecting free junk off craigslist & letgo is a huge hobby and we love building and doing multiple projects on our 6 acres in the northern florida panhandles!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am 47 married for 6 years to my best buddy, we are originally from Long Island NY but decided to finally rid ourselves of the suburban lifestyle after my husband was injured at work, so we took the money and ran...literally. Bought ourselves a beautiful farmhouse on almost 6 acres in the northern florida panhandles about an hour from St. Marks and the coast, we absolutely love it here. Prior to moving and retiring my husband was a chef for 12 or so years then a truck driver for 15 yrs where he was injured. I was a vet assistant for almost 15 years before I became burnt out from the job, i somehow found myself bartending after that for about 10yrs, thats where i met my husband, he was my customer...lol, then after we were married i left the bar business and ran the office of an auto body shop for a few years until we moved here in july 2017. Animals have literally been my life since i was a child, being in the vet business it was only natural to do rescue for my favorite animal...cats..at one point i had 36 cats..i currently have only 6 cats, the newest which i rescued from the dumps under a dumpster about a month ago, she was only about 3 weeks old, my cats do not love in my house as hubby is asthmatic, so he bought me a custom built shed that has heat, air and electric, we have it on our property under a huge overhang on a barn, its 12x8 and has an attached 10x10 pen that they have access to all day, the whole thing is covered from weather and predator proof..my cats come #1 here, then we have our little black pitbull Millie, which is also a rescue, we found her at our favorite fishing hole in january of this year, she was dumped, we went back there every day for 4 days to feed her before i finally convinced my husband to let me take her, he wasnt partial to pitbulls, i know better coming from a vet and know how amazing of a pet they are...so no we have Millie who is absolutely IN LOVE with my husband and he feels the same. Neither of us work as my husband is on disability from his multiple neck surgeries but he is pretty good and we get by fine with a tight budget. This is only my 2nd hatch, i hatched 3 ducks eggs about 15 yrs ago in the same hovabator still air incubator i am using now, but back then i never even looked at humidity, now i find myself going nuts over this dozen chicken eggs, i need to lower my humidity gonna try some rice as suggested, water almost empty and im 7 days in and still gettn between 50-50%humidity reading on the little gadget i bought on ebay, which i did calibrate with salt and seems to be accurate, also had it in my house for over a week and was right on going by my house thermostat. Hoping i don't end up with a bunch of dead chicks as i will feel horrible, it will keep me up for a week if that happens. Ok enough about me, thanks for all the info, u guys are so chicken savy!!!
