(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've been raising chickens for years. I recently acquired a handful of new breeds to add to my happy home.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Goodness. I had a dozen but got quite a few more thise year! I'd have to count by name/breed to know for sure. Definitely more than 20 in total.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Brahma, Buff Orpington, Jersey Giant, Araucana, Lavender Orpington, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Black-tailed White Japanese, Sapphire Gem, Welsummer, Polish, Russian Orloff, Sussex, Midnight Majesty, Turkens- Do Guinea fowl count?
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I enjoy watching them, feeding them, noticing the silly things they do. The eggs are a nice bonus. They are wonderful to have around.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to read novels and I dabble as an amateur artist.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family is complicated but loving. Lots of pets. Two house birds, a couple dogs, a couple cats, goats, guineas, turkens, and chickens.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I love BYC! Any time I look up something online that involves chickens, it's one of the first things that pop up! It's a friendly and informative community. I found it a while back when I needed to nurse an injured chicken. (My first rooster, Jim Henson, was attacked by a weasel and lost both of his legs. I found a post about treating wounds, and it helped. Jim lived for years after that, adapting and hopping around. He remained strong and proud until the day he passed.)
I finally made an account and joined because I check out this site fairly often, and with new birds, it just seemed right!
