If you live in a hot climate go with something like a leghorn, a mediterranean breed of chicken is good for hot climates. Leghorns can lay up to 300 eggs a year of course that would be in ideal situations. Mediterranean breeds tend to be smaller in body size but can lay large eggs usually white eggs. They also eat less feed but tend to be more flighty so if you want them tame spend a lot of time with them.
If you live in a cold climate I would go with larger breeds with more fluff and body weight. Large breed chickens tend to be more calm, like the saying goes "Gentle Giants" They will cost more to feed but will handle cold temperatures much better. Calico Princess is a good breed from Hoover I have 3. They are large, the coloring is buff to what they would call red with some markings, they lay a large brown egg, suppose to lay up to 290 egg a year. Jersey Giants, Buckeyes, Rhode island Red, Wyandotte, are all good breeds I could go on and on. Here is a couple of links. https://backyardchickenproject.com/cold-hardy-chicken-breeds/
