Hello everyone my name is Stephanie,
I currently have two chicks that are about 6 weeks old we adopted them from my son classroom. We are very new to this unfortunately we do not know the breed of our chicks hope someone will help us and guide me and my family to raise happy backyard chickens with two dogs.

Thank you! Their is so much to learn, for the moment just dying to know the breed of my chicks and if they are hens or roosters.
Ohhh! I’m sure. I just got my chicks about five weeks ago, so I’ve not mastered the breed identifying yet, however I’m sure someone here can offer tons more help. Best wishes on your new chicken journey.

They are awesome! I live in Florida. So temperature is beyond HOT lol, we just finished our coop and put them out there two nights ago, it was super nerve wrecking, worrying how they were gonna survive, etc. I’ve read different opinions of when to put them outside, and I just decided like it felt like it was time and they’ve been amazing. Took them about three hours to venture out of their house into the run after we opened the door. 😂.

Tips are just checking for pasty butt, watching for predators (if outside), building a coop or buying one because they grow SUPER fast, making sure they get food and water. If you are building a coop to be sure to cover their nesting boxes up so they don’t get used to sleeping and pooping in them (I got that genius tip from a BYC’r).

I hope Those tips help a bit.

I bought a coop but seem like it might be a bit small it's good enough for two but I think the need more room. I'm glad it's working out I felt the same way also. Thank so much for the tips I have not checked for past butts yet but sour crop on the other hand yes at least I suspect that its sour crop.
