Hi, my name is Tatiana and we are very new to chickens. In fact, I haven't even picked them up yet. We are getting 4 Buff Oliphant chicks soon. I have been researching all I can to prepare. I found this group on Facebook and looks like a great place to share and ask questions. I have a family of 4 and we live in the Bay Area. Our house is on a slope, so I am having someone ( chicken whisperer) come in and advice about coop placement and anything else I will need to know. I do have one question to start. Do you recommend a plastic coop over a wooden one?

Hello there Tatiana and welcome to BYC! :frow

Wood is definitely better than plastic. Plastic doesn't breathe and it sweats, wood holds the heat in the winter and absorbs moisture. Chickens put out a ton of moisture at night pooping and breathing, make sure you have at least 1/2 square foot per bird of vent space in the eaves of the coop. Good luck and welcome aboard!
