Thank you for this wonderful site for chicken information. I have referred to this site for many of my questions about chickens. Currently my husband and I have 14 hens, 10 red sex links, 2 Ameraucanas, 1 buff orpington and 1 RRI red. We also have a Kelso game rooster that we are ready to put into the freezer because he is so dang mean!! He's a beautiful bird, but will attack for no reason at all. We bought him from a flea market not knowing that he was of a fighting breed. He's good with all the hens and that's the only reason he's still alive! Whenever I go out to gather the eggs each day I have to carry a stick to protect myself from being attacked. He knows what the stick is for because when I walk into the coop he runs to the back of the yard area and begins to "trash talk" the entire time that I'm in there. Then when I leave, he attacks the fence!! He's really mean, I cannot let the grand kids go anywhere near the coop, which is frustating to them because they love to gather the eggs. Has anyone else had problems with a mean rooster? I really hate to cull him because again, he's so good with the hens and protects them so well. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to join this group.
