Hi everyone. New to chickens. Looking to learn all about it! In the past I had 200 pairs of exotic birds They were all proven breeders. They were hand fed. We sold many to Bush Gardens and private people from all over. If anybody needs help in this area feel free to contact me. I'm sure I'll have questions reference chickens. Any advise is welcomed. What are the best egg laying chickens? Feel free sharing any chicken.

Thanks in advance,
Michael in Strawberry Plains.

Welcome to the forum! You will love it here. Many breeds of chickens are good egg layers, depends on what you’re looking for and what your goals are.
If you are looking for a chicken that will lay an egg every day then look into the sex linked breeds. They are bred to start laying eggs early and will lay eggs almost daily. The drawback is they usually have a shorter lifespan than other chicken breeds. People often like to get a mixed flock of different kinds of breeds and colors or if you’re looking for different colored eggs. All depends on what you want. I’m sure there’s a breed of chicken just right for you.😊

Welcome!

are you from a Strawberry Plains TN?

best egg layers - production types are best, and tend to be lean bc all their feed goes into making eggs, not muscle. Some people want reliable eggs all year, so they get production types and replace the flock every other year. Others will get new chicks every spring so there are always pullets laying through the winter (Lower Light time) And not molting.

do you still have your bird setup and supplies that you will be using, or are you building from scratch?
