Hi, I'm a new member and a new chicken owner. I have worked with a large variety of animals over my life, including being a beekeeper, and I figure it's time to do the chicken thing. My chickens will be here in about 2 weeks, I have had some before but, that was 20 years ago and I'm guessing things have changed. I'm starting with a bakers dozen, getting a variety of girls. They will be for fun and for eggs and I am really looking forward to learning about them and learning from them. My son will be leaving for college soon and my husband and I are really enjoying this coop building project with him as kind of a last hurrah before he "flies the coop" so to say. I'm getting 2 Buff Orphingtons, 2 Whiting's True Blue, 2 Whiting's True Green, 2 Olive Eggers, 2 Jersey Black Giants, 2 French Black Copper Marans, and 1 Cuckoo Marans. Hopefully this will start a long happy hobby to keep us busy during our empty nest days. Our 3 dogs are looking forward to having a flock to watch over as well.
