Good morning! I am a new member and have had chickens now for approximately 2 years and loving it. I have a rooster and now some hens with sticky butt/ also vent fleet. I was wondering if I could use Corid in their water for 5 days to help get them better? I have tried apple cider vinegar with mother, hydro hen 3 in 1 and now again topical nystatin-neomycin sulfate-thiostrepton. I like doing more natural remedies, however, I need to get this under control and it’s been going on with my rooster now for months.(it has improved ,however, they are still battling with the issue). I took my rooster to the Vet and she was not sure what to do, never heard of vent fleet. I requested the nystatin, per what I researched…it did help but not sure if can do Corid and nystatin at the same time. I don’t want to harm my rooster or hens. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. Blessings!

Hey there! Welcome to BYC! For vent fleet, I would recommend trimming the feathers around their vent (thought careful not to snip the vent!) so that the poop doesn’t catch as much. That’s all I really know to do though.

Do you have any pictures of vents cleaned up? Could your vet do a fecal float and gram stain on some fresh droppings to find out if coccidiosis, worms, or a bacterial or fungal infection is seen? Vent gleet is a bit over diagnosed. It is a fungal infection of the digestive tract. Do they have raw bare vents with a worse than usual odor to their droppings? Chickens can have runny droppings and dirty vents for a number of reasons. First, I would use some probiotics to get their intestinal flora (good bacteria) back in order after having antibiotics. Probios powder from a feed store, Grow2Max, and Purina Plan Fortiflora are some brands, and plain greek yogurt or buttermilk can be helpful as well. A little cooked rice might help to decrease any diarrhea, but don’t go overboard. You don’t want to make them constipated. Clean up their vents with a warm soapy water bucket rinse. Trim any excess fluff that collects droppings.
