Hello all! I’ve progressed from raising chicks for the local grammar school to raising my own hens! We are loving every minute but recently mourned the loss of a “broiler” we adopted. I want to give my flock their “best chicken life”. We currently are dealing with a mobility impaired splay leg rooster (sibling to the defunct broiler) who has won my heart so I have many questions dealing with his care and appreciate any input (of note the vet calls him a “very handsome bird who just doesn’t walk well” so he’s health and happy but has poor mobility. Also of note, I work as a physical therapist so I can hopefully address these limitations with some guidance!! Thanks in advance and happy to be part of the community

So I’m looking for guidance in splinting and/or helping him with mobility but also wondering how to get him through the winter since he rests on the ground vs perching. We have heat mats but I feel he will move around without regard for the mats. Any suggestions appreciated!!
