Hi y’all!!! My name is Stacy and I live in Millersburg, IN(Elkhart county). We currently do not have any chickens, as our town does not allow them, but we would really like to see that change. My son is in 4-H and we have a mini rabbitry. I came across this website on a google search for backyard chickens.
If you have any tips on starting a petition to get our towns approval for backyard chickens, please let me know.

Hello, Stacy, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Research what is permitted in neighboring or nearby communities with similar residential/commercial/space that DO permit birds and use their bylaws as a basis for what you are proposing for your area. Then write up a petition for residents of your area to sign. Address the typical concerns of keeping poultry: noise (prohibit roosters), cleanliness (require minimum area to make keeping the birds as clean as possible: 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 12 sq ft per bird in a secure run), birds running free and damaging neighbors properties (birds must be confined to owners property) and rodents (keep food cleaned up) along with property aesthetics (can't build a coop/run within X feet of property border and can't be easily visible from the street). Good luck.
