Hi everybody. I just joined your group, at the advice of my brother. Just got a bunch of chicks, and I'm new to this, so maybe getting over 40 wasn't the greatest idea (spltting them with my sister, so I should be down to about 20 or so)? BUT, I plan on doing both egg-layers and meat-producers, and am looking forward to reading your experiences and asking questions as I go along. Michele

Hi Michele, that's a lot of chicks to start with...best of luck! Do you have a coop ready for the 20 you're keeping?
I do. And about an acre of free range. Also, 10 of the 20 will be meat in about 8 weeks, so that will free up the space for the layers. Now I have to figure out how to tell the White Leghorns from the Cornish Rock chicks....accidently put 4 of them them in the same brooder as the Cornish!
