Hello,
I am new to your forum. I am interested in raising a few chickens for fun and some eggs.
I have nothing yet, except that I know I can have five chickens by county code/ordinance.
Can anybody tell me good breeds of Chickens that will weather the cold winters and hot summers?
Have been reading about an Ameraucanus or Leghorn?

There are a lot of great threads and articles in the Learning Center . You can look up certain breeds, coop designs, chicken care, etc. Leghorns and really small birds and are not very cold hardy. Ameraucanas are cold and heat hardy. Good luck!

There are many breeds that can handle cold winters and hot summers.
When selecting for more cold than hot, avoid breeds with large single combs.

Multiple great links have been offered already - I've found that my Rhode Island Red, Sussex, Easter Egger, and Black Australorp have all been fairly tolerant to all kinds of weather. Best of luck in picking out your chicken breeds and starting your flock!
