Hey there!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Yes, very new, just 3 months in!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

My friend and I own a total of three together. I just own one who we recently discovered is a rooster and need to find him a new home because she doesn't want to keep a male bird.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Silver Laced Wyandotte

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I love watching the chickens. They are so entertaining. I love the idea of collecting your own eggs and raising your own food. With chickens I only intend to keep egg layers.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I have owned horses my whole life and currently have a 2-year-old who I am training myself. I like to read and play classical piano as well as attempt to paint and draw. I like to bake and do photography. The list goes on as I'm just generally interested in life I guess.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am from the Bay area but decided to move to the Central valley to be away from all the people and closer to farmlands. I currently have a horse, a giant schnauzer mix, my chicken and I have a pet baby Boer goat who I absolutely love. Her name is Frances.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I was searching online for an option for my rooster to find a new home for him. As we cannot keep roosters. He is about 3 months old and I want to find him a loving home. So I came across this site and it looks really neat.

Sounds like you're living in a good place, one that's better suited to you than the Bay area. And, who doesn't LOVE an adorable baby goat! Hurray for Frances!

Although I have a number of "dual purpose" chickens, all my poultry are always pets. Many have quit laying eggs and are living out their retirement in the country with their retiree owner.

I'm sorry you can't keep your boy; hope he finds a good home soon.

Welcome to BYC! Keep enjoying those chickens!
