Hello! I am excited to be a member! So I wanted to do the new member questionnaire to introduce myself!
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
-I am fairly new. We just started doing chickens this year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
-currently we have 20. (1 rooster about 1 year old, 4 fully grown hens, 4 11 week old chicks, and 11 3/4 week old chicks).
(3) What breeds do you have?
-we have a mix of breeds. Our rooster is an ameraucana x Orpington mix. We have a lavender Orpington, Buff Orpington, a mix of bantams, 2 sapphire gems, 4 Golden Comets, and 2 barred rocks.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
-my favorite part of raising my chickens is getting to know each of their personalities and building a relationship with them. I love waking up and taking care of them and hearing all the noises they make. Some of the best evenings are spent sitting in a lawn chair feeding my chickens treats before they head to bed.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
-my fiancé and I own and operate our own plumbing business. So when I’m not chicken farming, I’m in our home office working! I also enjoy rescuing dogs.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
-my family is always excited to hear when I get a new chicken! The kiddos love coming over to see and feed them! We have 2 dogs (pit bull mix) and they are our whole world (other than the chickens
).
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
-I found BYC when I was preparing for my first round of chicks. This community has been such a HUGE help to me, so I had to join!
