We have just retired from commercial cropping, livestock and game ranching, onto a small 2ha property to live a homesteaders life.
We took over some mature chickens, brought in 10 POL hens and cockerel. Some seriously elderly hens were "retired" so now have a flick of 23 hens, 1 cockerel, 15 chick from 3 hens sitting. We don't know what breed/s they are, but they ARE Heritage chickens
We have zero experience with chickens and would like to be part of a forum from which we can learn. We are really enjoying the companionability of the chickens as well as the regular routine.
Having been fully involved in our farming life as will as running a 24 bed bnb, im looking forward to getting back to my creative hobbies as well as bottling, pickling etc.
We have 2 adult daughters living overseas, also leading homesteading and minimal wastage lives, so it's in the family. We are the late-comers
In looking for answers to questions, I came across BYC and decided we could benefit a lot from this pool of wisdom and experience. Thank you for having us!!
