Hi all,

My name is Susan and I am new to raising chickens. I am reading up on this site trying to learn everything there is to learn about raising chickens in Seabeck, WA. I’m so new, in fact, that I’m looking for my first chicks. Just bought a coop for eight chickens, mainly for eggs, but I’m late to the game in getting chicks. Every place I’ve looked so far is out of chicks now that it’s October, so I’m hoping to find some soon. Thank you for all your posts, there is so much to know about chickens!

Some friends of ours recommended Rhode Island Reds, but I’m open to suggestions from BYC. I’m primarily looking for good egg breeds. :)
White Leghorn, Barred Rock, and Easter egger chickens (along with RIR) are the most popular when it comes to egg production! Sex links are too, but they have short life spans of 2-3 years since they tend to develop reproductive problems from laying.
