Hi. From western Michigan. Inherited 2 older laying chickens and a coop when we purchased a fixer upper home. Want to learn how to take care of them. They seem happy right now. Previous owner left us with water container, the covered coop and run and suggestion for food to feed them. Want to have someone to ask if we run into any issues. 🙄
Ok depending on your backyard you could free-range them that makes all chickens very happy. However you need to predator safe the area and maybe get two more hend for safety. You can choose lots of different feeds, but they do good on a omnivore diet of bugs and plants. You can get pellets which gave plenty of nutrients and protein. Also the egg industry uses cheap poor quality gluten feed and if you use pellets with all these good ingredients you will get beautiful and delicious orange almost caramel yolks with great flavor. Trust me I use pellets with ground up cricket, mealworms, and plenty of vegetables and plants all made into the perfect pellets with a little corn grain in it as well.
