Hello everyone, I am from South Centeral Texas and was here a few years back but now getting time to resurface here.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Nope not new to chickens and had my first flock 40 years ago at the age of 8. Graduated from a 4 year university with an animal science degree and have always enjoyed poultry.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just lost 24 laying hens and my roosters to racoons and opossums. Just purchased 16 new chicks and trying to sneak more in when the wife is not looking.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Wyandotte, Buff Orpingtons, Leghorns, and Golden sexlinks.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Keeping snakes away, eggs to sell for my kids college fund, and just to have yard art running around to entertain me in the evenings.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hunting, Fishing, Woodworking, helping coach select baseball, incubating eggs, and homesteading in general.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married to a very patient and understanding lady. We have two kids a boy and a girl who love baseball and softball. They have daily chores on the farm and are learning valuable life skills. We normally have a dog or two and always looking to rescue another. I work in the Facilities Services for a state university. I am just very blessed and so grateful for every blessing in my life.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found this site through the Chicken Thistle Farm podcast years ago and have been here off and on ever since.
Outside of all this I look forward to learning and helping others because like I tell everyone I work with I let them know "None of us got to where we are at on our own, so if I can help to get you where you want to go please let me know."
