Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

So glad you decided to join us. You could always add to your flock with younger birds? I've kept senior birds with young birds with no issues. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Many people keep their retired layers as pets and broody hens. They help raise the next generations.

Others process them and use them as soup hens. They have to be slow cooked to be good to eat.

The route you take is your choice to make. You could do a combination of the above and keep a few select hens to help teach the next generation of chickens you want to raise and process the rest.

Welcome to BYC! How many older ladies do you have? In the past I've had pretty good luck advertising my old girls in our local "free" paper as pets. It surprises me how many folks have been interested in hens that rarely if ever lay eggs. Good luck! :)
