Hi everyone,
I found this site trying to do some research and decided to join so I can interact and ask questions of more experienced chicken owners.
This is my first time raising chickens. My mom had silkies but I don't have any experience.
I live in the high desert in California and have challenging weather. It can go as low as the 20s in the winter to the triple digits in the summer.
I'm hoping to get some advice in how to keep my new babies happy and healthy.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

We have some wild temp swings here in the mountains of New Mexico too, from sub zero temps to near 100 degrees. Birds learn to tolerate the changes however there is definitely a limit as to what they can handle.

You might want to stop by your state thread of California, you can find your local here... https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/find-your-states-or-your-countrys-thread.270925/

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything, be sure to ask. Welcome to our community!

hi!!! Are used to live in the high desert in California , antelope valley ! in lake Los Angeles to be exact. And I had chickens and ducks and turkeys and a pig, and a goat and a sheep. It was a long time ago. But I remember hosing down the chicken coop, hosing down the ducks, lots of water and planting trees, shade shade more shade, and water, water, water, most important things in the desert. WELCOME TO BYC. IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU!
