(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My husband and I first got chickens in July 2022 when we raised a batch of Cornish Cross. This January we got four laying pullets, and now we're raising another 24 chicks for eggs and meat.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 28
(3) What breeds do you have?
Bielefelder (7) , Buckeye (9), Dominique (8), Buff Orpington (2), Rhode Island Red (1), Gold-laced Wyandotte (1)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are so much fun to watch and interact with. I never realized they had such personalities until we got laying hens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, hiking, kayaking on the lake, etc.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I are doing an early retirement to enjoy the homesteading life. We just got four sheep in addition to all the chickens.
