IMG_0358.jpeg IMG_0356.jpeg IMG_7245.jpeg I have been lurking around this sight for the past year since getting my first chickens. I have 9 Barred Rock and 9 Sapphire Gems. They are lovingly called The Rubye’s, in memory of my mother-n-law, and because we can’t tell 18 chickens a part😁 Your comments, experiences and advice have been invaluable to me. I knew absolutely nothing about chickens. I love their quirky ways and having fresh eggs! I bred Labrador Retrievers for 20 years and am an avid animal lover. We still have 4 labs who are excellent guardians for my chicks that would otherwise succumb to coyotes or bobcats in our Texas country side. My husband and I built a beautiful coup based on advice from this forum and a 30’ x 100’ run. My chicks have been doing pretty well with the exception of a virus they all got this winter but have totally recovered from with the aid of herbs and tinctures. They are excellent layers and we are so pleased to share eggs with our critters and other family members. We are so pleased to now be a part of the Back Yard Chickens Community.
