Hi. I just joined backyard chickens. I'm in Colorado and although I had some chickens over 30 years ago, I consider myself new to raising chickens. I have 12 pullets, now almost 18 weeks old and one rooster. The pullet's breeds are Buff Orpington, Americana, Wellsummer, and Australorp. The rooster is Australorp. I find the chickens fascinating to watch and have thoroughly enjoyed them so far. I got my first egg 2 days ago! I was very excited. One of the Americanas had laid it since it was a blue/green color, but I'm not sure which hen it was. I live in a semi-rural area on the front range between Colorado Springs and Denver. In addition to my new hobby of raising chickens, I also enjoy hiking with my dog, playing pickleball, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and diamond painting.
I joined backyard chickens because I have questions about raising chickens and I like the question/answer format. It is really helpful to get feedback from others who also have backyard chickens and fun as well as educational to read the responses.
