Hi,
I started with my chickens last May, raising them from chicks. I had ordered 8 bantams from a mail-order farm and only one survived. I then got a Rhode Island, two Sapphires and a Barred Rock. Later I added another bantam. So far I have loved having my chickens but this fall had a bear destroy our new shoddy coop that cost a fortune, and then a hawk took one of my bantams. My daughter is working on building a new, more secure coop and larger run to keep them happy and safer. Have lots of questions to ask!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. This is a great place to explore and hang out. Darn use hardware cloth not chicken wire but not allot can stop a bear I am so sorry for your loss.

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.

I would invest in electrified poultry netting to run around your setup to keep the bears out.
That works well with the bears around my setup.
