Hi , I am married to my husband, for 30 years will be
31 in August. We live on 3 acres, ever since we have lived here
in Feb. of 1986. We have always had chickens my husband
says it is a hobby for him. We have had pretty good luck keeping them safe until recently. We had 1 duck recently get killed, she was 10 years old. My husband brought some baby chicks home this spring and raised them very well he used a old freezer and made this their home for several weeks. Then of course they get big and you have to put them outside with the elements and some of our older hens. He bought some Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rock , One black Link, and a Gold Lac Wyandotte, (the last two were new for us very pretty chicks) We have been having some trouble with a Racoon and of course Opossum. We lost 2 of our new chicks on Thursday nite, I went out there and seen the racoon climbing the fence. I stayed out there until morning for the rest of the night till 6 am or so I seen 2 Opossums trying to get to them, I did yes try to shoot them not to good of a shot. Please note: this is not really my charcter I just didn't want to lose any more chicks. My husband worked so hard to raise them, you see he just recently retired, due to his layoff from his job. I must say though, we ended up with 3 Roosters, one was killed, along with another.
They were both the Plymoth Rocks. Oh by the way I am a Home Health Nurse, I take care of the Elderly so they can stay in there home. Have been for 5 years now.
