I am a backyard chicken raiser in North Central Texas. I know very little about chickens, but I do enjoy them. I'm not new to them, but just don't know much about them. I have 5 laying hens; 2 black sex links, 1 welsummer, 1 production red, and one leghorn. I just hatched out 8 assorted and 8 production reds. And, oh, I have 3 what I think are buff old english bantam hens and one rooster. I probably won't be on a lot, but I do hope you'll be there for me when I have questions. Thank you and have a great day.

Hey , I am new to this site. I am not even sure how to use it. I got 6 free chicks from Southern States. I have no idea if they are male or female. It has been fun. They are brooding in a horse 75 gallon water trough, baby chick feed on the floor, waterer and feeder, and red heat lamp. I am so glad now that it is warm. Can put them outside in puppy play yard with wire screen on top. They are 5 weeks old now. Getting their feathers and trying to fly all the time. Have a couple of foxes on my property and keeps me very wary. So far so good. Trying to decide now on the best chicken coop....

In your messages on your home page top right hand corner you will see messages .. You should have a Welcome letter from BYC .. It has a great into .. on how to use the site .. Sounds like your having a creative start : )

I should have added that not only our few chickens, but 2 peacocks and 2 peahens, and 45 guineas. We mainly raise Boer goat.
