Hello

My name is Ashton and I am from Alberta, Canada. I recently bought an acreage with 17 hens and 2 rooster. 14 of the hens and both roosters are White Leghorns and the other 3 hens are different breeds, which I have yet to identify. Some of the hens are older and look quite ragged and even at this time of the year I only get about 5 to 8 eggs a day from them. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to increase their egg output?

Some of the older ones may be burned out on laying. If you want a steady out put you might add some younger stock in

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Older hens, particularly heavy layers like Leghorns and production reds, only lay well for a few years, then slow down considerably. Molting will also decrease egg production.
