Hello!! This is my first time on here. I am "hatching" some rhode island reds. (30 of them) I have never had chickens before. Any help would be GREAT!!

WELCOME! I have been a member for over a month now. I was looking for information on turkeys because I had not raised them in about 20 years. I got some very useful information. As for new born chicks, they need a good chick starter, clean water and a heat lamp. I raise my hatchlings in the largest plastic storage bin I can find and put small animal shavings as a floor and to absorb all the poop. I get a heat lamp and clamp on the side of the plastic storage bin and put the food in a small chicken feeder and small water feeder. I put the heat lamp at one end and the food in the other. I put 10 chicks per storage bin and they do just fine. I change the litter at least, once per week to keep the chicks clean. Once the chicks start getting their feathers and grow out of the bins, I take them out to the chicken coop to an area made for the youngsters with a heat lamp. When the youngsters get all their feathers, I turn them loose in the chicken coop but I still leave the heat light for a couple of weeks in case it gets cold at night and the chicks need more warmth. HAVE FUN!!
