Hello, my name is Violet (Bantam Luv) . I am new to Back yard and new to raising chickens. I bought 12 chicks at the TS in February and I ended up with 11 ( one died) 5 Roos and 6 hens. I find them so entertaining and find them so therapeutic for myself after a long day of doing therapy for others. I have cochin bantams...Leroy, Mason, Pepper, Frankie, Larry, Angel, Ella, Carrie, Emma, Red & Penguin. They are starting to mate and I know I have too many Roos, but how do I part with any of them without grieving. I love them all so much. Somebody help!

! Pleased to have you aboard! Best of luck to you and your bantams!

Thanks red socks. One of my bantams is a little cochin frizzle. One of the Roos seems to keep her isolated from the rest of the flock. He is not mean to her but he runs up to her and does this little side stepping move as though he is pushing her away and when she retreats to go by herself , he quickly runs back to the test of the flock. Any ideas what he is doing?

Too many roos mean they will overbreed your hens eventually and can harm and even kill them. One roo to about 8 hens is a much better ratio. If you can't part with the extra roos you can coop them separately - away from hens. That way they survive but will not have the jealous rages and injure each other.
