To Chickmama8, One reason we have chickens is for the benefit of our visiting grandchildren, who are scattered all over the country (including the Midwest). None of them live on farms or even in the country. They love to feed the chickens and gather eggs. My grandson recent tried to hatch an egg by incubating it under his pillow. Fortunately, his mom found it before it broke.

I am a new member. Just found this group yesterday! We recently bought an old farmhouse to restore on 12 acres. We only have 2 chickens that we bought for our Grandson to enjoy and they are spoiled and nosey. They free range in the daytime and are tucked away securely at night. I really enjoy them and want more strictly for pets and the eggs. I look forward to having more as time permits.
