HI

My husband and I have had chickens on & off for about 10 years.

We currently have 5 chickens & 1 rooster. 3 white- Frost, Icy, Flake, 1 black- Inka, 1 partridge- Pardy & rooster is black & white named Spot. I hope to increase the flock next spring.

All of our chickens are cochins now but we have had guinea hens & rhode island reds in the past. We lost our first flock to a fox attack. Lost all but one, that we took to friends to move in with her chickens. Took a while to find a breed, we wanted a friendlier chicken. Love the cochins!!

I found BYC online searching around and seemed interesting.

We raise and show newfoundland & affenpinscher dogs. We are also active in obedience, rally, water & draft training.

We have 4 adult kids, 1 married, 2 engaged and 1 in school. Mike is a mason & works with our son Marjie is a groomer and works from home.

Currently worried that coop may not be enough protection in NY winters. Any one with northern weather coop experience they'd like to share would be welcome.

Thanks

Yay, another dog person. Lots of dog breeders, handlers etc. on BYC. I think when you want something special in a dog breed, you tend to feel the same way about any animal you raise.

I used to breed and show Cockers in the olden days - late 60's to early 80's. I love Newfies - haven't met any affenpinschers tho
