Hey y'all,
I am new to this site. I am thinking about getting some. Chickens and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what would be a good first started chickens. I have two kids. One 5 one 2. I was looking at a frizzle thing are the cutest ugliest things! :) I will hopefully start building my coop within the next couple of weeks. I live near Aiken south Carolina.

Any of the Orpington breeds make great pets for kid and are great layers as well.....Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps. Both of these are very docile, kid friendly, tolerate being carried around by kids. They will follow the kids around like drooling puppies. Silkies make great pets as well. They are also very friendly as pets. Barred Rocks are also very friendly as pets as are the Wyandotte breed.

For local birds you might check out / post on your state thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/127943/south-carolina Cochins are another breed you might consider, they are popular as pets for children, come in both bantam and standard, and most hatcheries carry them in bantam in frizzle also.
