Hey all, I am Malinda Causey, better known as "Motherhunter". I am new to the back yard chicken raising. My husband and I have 100 acres, and have 20 Quarter horses. We have wanted to purchase chickens and goats, but just haven't done it until today..... I purchased 13 Rhode Island Reds that are about 1/2 grown, so says the lady who sold them to me. She also told me I have 12 hens and one rooster. (how she knows that I have no clue) I have always wanted chickens, although, to be honest, I know absolutely nothing about this. Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing where this takes me. Thank you in advance for guiding me thru getting this started.

Congrats on the new flock! Is the rooster crowing yet? If so, you can go watch who is crowing to find out who is a rooster. Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of raising your new flock...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
