Hi everyone! My name is Kate my family and I live on a farm outside Delhi Iowa. We raise cattle, pigs, and crops. My daughter came to me one day with an idea. She wanted to get a flock of chickens and start raising layers for her own egg production.I was septic all at first but she had a plan! We built a broodery in our barn and purchased 73 chickens of different breeds. Our chickens are 3 weeks old and doing great! We are excited for them to get older to see what breeds of chickens we have. Our plan is to allow them to be free range in the back yard it's fenced in now just to find a hen house for them! We are really excited to raise chickens any tips any of you have ate very much welcomed!
Thanks!

Welcome to BYC, Kate. Glad you decided join our flock. You have quite a sizable flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your large flock.

Welcome and good luck on your new adventure.

I cannot imagine jumping in with such a large flock.

You really do need to visit the learning center and the coops forums to help with getting the coop ready. They should be ready to move out of the brooder at 5-6 weeks of age.

If you have not already studied the subject, please also investigate predator issues for protecting the flock and your investment.

Good luck.

Wow, that is a whole lotta chickens. Hope your daughter doesn't change her mind. Welcome to Backyard chickens. Have your visited the Learning Center? The coops section is great for ideas, and you also may want to check out the predators forum. They would think they landed in predator heaven - if they found your barn.
