Been looking around on the board for a long time. Started raising chickens about a year ago. We are a small family of 4 in Mesa, AZ and love having our chickens.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Good to be here. I have 2 barred rocks, 1 RIR, 4 brown leghorns, 2 white leghorns, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Australorp and some Golden Cuckoo Maran chicks. Pretty mixed flock.

Finally I just joined, have been coming here for about 2 months now researching and have found it to be most informative. I am new to the world of chickens. Got 8 BO when they were 2 days old and today they are 6 weeks and the girls keep me laughing continuously! I live in Wilmington, NC and the heat index is climbing, over 104 yesterday and it is expected it to rise this week to 110.

Have done tons of research on how to keep them cool and came across an interesting product. It is call the IcyBreeze Portable Air Conditioner and Cooler (icybreeze.com) I contacted the company to help me decide which of the 4 to choose from and was contact back almost immediately. He said the "Blizzard" ($395) would be the best for the coop and run because you have the option of plugging it in if needed. He said he used to be a pig farmer. They are a bit pricey, but I figure in the long run it would be worth it. If anyone has any thoughts on this or other options please post.

Thanks and Glad to be here!

Living in the Phoenix area I deal with the heat a lot also, suppose to by around 110-112 all week. I have done a couple things I have done that have helped me out so far, the worst is yet to come though. I put my coop under a big grapefruit tree. It always has shade. I have a mister system set up by the coop with a fan. That helps a lot and the girls love it. Lastly, lots of cool water.
